Answer: DNS translates human-readable domain names into IP addresses.
DNS Process:

  1. User types www.example.com
  2. Local DNS cache checked first
  3. Query sent to recursive DNS server
  4. If not cached, queries root name servers
  5. Directed to TLD (.com) servers
  6. Finally queries authoritative name servers
  7. IP address returned to client
    DNS Hierarchy: Root → TLD → Authoritative → Host
